• The Route: The park features a fully paved, flat walking track that circles the lake, making it highly accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and runners looking for a consistent, measured loop.

• Local Expert Tip: This isn't just a walking track; it is the hub of Oxford’s community life. It features multiple playgrounds, a splash pad in the summer, pickle ball and tennis courts. If you are a morning walker, get there early—the track is a popular spot for locals before the workday begins. (And yes, bringing along a little snack for the ducks is practically a local requirement! Watch the goose poo!)

2. Coldwater Mountain (Anniston, AL)

Best For: World-class mountain biking and dedicated trail hiking. Managed by the Forever Wild Land Trust, Coldwater Mountain isn't just a local trail—it is a nationally recognized, IMBA-designated Bronze Level Ride Center.

• The Route: With over 35 miles of purpose-built, single-track trails, this mountain caters to everyone. Beginners can stick to the "Baby Bear" loop, while advanced riders can tackle the technical descents of "Bomb Dog."

• Local Expert Tip: Hikers are welcome here, but you must stay alert, as these are primarily biking trails. If you are looking for a fantastic, moderate hike with great elevation gain, park at the Anniston Trailhead (off Coldwater Pump Road) and take the hiking-only sections. 3. The Chief Ladiga Trail (Calhoun County)

Stretching 33 miles from the Anniston/Weaver area, straight through the Jacksonville State University campus, and all the way to the Georgia state line (where it connects to the Silver Comet Trail), this paved pathway is an incredible local asset.

You will get immediate access to beautiful tree canopies and local coffee shops just steps off the trail. 4. Cheaha State Park & The Pinhoti Trail (Talladega County)
